Human hair eyelashes

Human hair eyelashes are usually made from animal hair from mink. The eyelashes are touted as particularly high quality and soft and should break less easily than synthetic hair. Some eyelashes manufacturers said that the furs for eyelashes are got by brushing animals and without harming them. However, that is a very uncommon situation. The mink eyelashes at old times were made from animal fur that might harm them too.

Synthetic lashes

An animal-friendly alternative to mink eyelashes made from real hair is synthetic mink eyelashes.  Although these are also called “Mink Lashes”, they are made of synthetic fibers such as microfiber and do not contain any organic substances. They look very similar to real hair, shiny, very flexible, and light.

Silk eyelashes / Silk Lashes

Silk eyelashes are also made of synthetic fibers but are softer and shinier than mink eyelashes. For this structure, they are processed with silk proteins and are therefore not vegan. Silk proteins come from the silk fiber of the silkworm's cocoon. To process the cocoon undamaged, the caterpillars are boiled alive in it or exposed to extremely hot steam. The insects squirm and fidget until they die from the heat.
